Darien Georgia Hosts First Saturday![]()
The historic Darien Waterfront hosts a FREE day of fun, food, and festivities every first Saturday of the month. Sponsored by the Darien Waterfront Merchants Association and the Darien Downtown Development Authority, the event features arts and crafts, handmade items by local artisans, and an outdoor market with fresh baked goods, Georgia Wild Caught Shrimp, fruits, vegetables and other locally made or grown items.
The Purple Pickle Restaurant kicks off the “Taste of Darien” in September. Each month feautres a different local restaurant with samplings and tastings from their menu. Special events and activities are new each month. For example, the series “Buildings of Historical Significance in Darien” is going on right now. At 11:30 a.m., local historian Sudy Leavy will give a 20-30 minute history, including questions and answer session, on the Adam Strain Building, the oldest commercial building in Darien (circa 1813). There will be an opportunity to take pictures of the building afterward, so bring your camera! The City of Darien Fire Department brings a fire truck by to entertain the children, let them meet a real Fireman, and have their picture taken with the truck. Fort King George will be firing their cannon and performing musket drills with hands on games for kids from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (cost: $4- $6.50 for Fort King George events only).
